The Covington Spectacle Paints a Grim Picture

If you’ve watched the news or browsed social media over the last week, you’ve probably come across the Covington story. Basically, it all started when a bunch of students from an all male Catholic school were sightseeing after attending the March for Life event. During their outing, an altercation occurred. a video clip released by a Native American group showing a Marine Corps Veteran banging a drum with a student standing face to face with him. It was a strange encounter with the boy smirking at times at the man, but nothing happening. It was the headlines that painted the picture. MAGA hat wearing teen attacks, demeans Vietnam Veteran was the trending theme. The whole thing went viral with many media outlets denouncing the boys and calling them racists and bigots.

Then more video emerged showing the exact opposite was the case. The Covington group was the victim, not the aggressor. A group called the Black Hebrew Israelites had targeted them first, hurling verbal abuse and racial slurs at them, then the Native American man walks into the group, approaching the students while beating his drum. The whole thing ended when the buses had arrived and the high-schoolers left.

This is when things got ugly. After the media made the whole thing viral and demonized the boys, and then learned what they believed had happened was completely wrong, a significant portion doubled down on their initial claims that the boys were racist and bigoted. But, since their initial evidence crumbled, and they had no other evidence to go on, they distorted reality and implicated many more innocent people. Sadly, some in the public at large followed their lead, often continuing to push violence and hate towards the boys and the school. Some of the heinous acts observed included:

  • A journalist posted a picture of the entire Covington school participating in a blackout basketball game. The claim was the entire school was racist and was engaging in blackface, therefore, the boys at the March for Life are racist and bigoted anyway.

  • Some pushed that even though the boys didn’t act wrongly, their choice to wear the MAGA hat was hate speech. If fact, anyone who wears the MAGA hate is racist and bigoted. Since many in the group wore the hats, the group is racist and bigoted.

  • The parents of many of the boys had their information stolen and posted publicly. They’ve now been the target of death & bomb threats, and harassment.

  • A few prominent actresses offered sexual favors to anyone who successfully attacked the boys physically. Some still do.

  • Threats and attacks on the school itself forced it to temporarily close and cancel certain public events.

  • Legal groups and social justice advocates actively tried to get the parents, school officials, and members of the Catholic church fired and subjected to financial ruin and the boys expelled.

That’s quite the way to treat the victims and people associated of the victims, after learning that they were the victims. And some of this is still going on. But why? We can expect a small minority to just be vicious just for the sake of being vicious, but this is a substantial number, and a substantial number is indicative of an agenda. And it is clear that this agenda is to rid the nation of its traditional and religious beliefs, Christian in particular.

This is nothing new. But what is new is their determination in doing it. This whole mess proves that they are so desperate, that they are willing to jump at what would normally be a non-story, and stake their credibility on it. Even more telling was when that story fell apart, they doubled down, showing they were willing to destroy the name and reputation of innocent teenage boys to keep the narrative afloat. The pain and suffering they were inflicting didn’t matter enough to them. If they were even against dispensing it at all.

This level of determination is dangerous, and it has become clear from the newer articles from these same people, that they are actively attempting to convince the public that a religiously based education is bad in general. They will utilize their influence to get the accreditation of these schools pulled, end the tax-exempt status of all religious organizations, and control or eliminate home-school programs and the private school curriculum. Ben Shapiro touched on this point today:

He is exactly right. And several of the most progressive state legislatures have already pushed concepts of this agenda. God willing, we can get off this dark road we’re on. If not, our freedoms may be curtailed significantly. It’s up to us to stand against the these bullies. And this whole mess shows that is exactly what they are.
