The Policy of Legalized Child Murder

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you have probably noticed that state governments have suddenly began legalizing infanticide. Luckily, many of these efforts are still in their early stages, with New York being the only state to sign their bill into law.

By passing that law, the society of New York has determined that there is no right to life at all life unless a person leaves the womb alive. This means it is perfectly legal to murder perfectly viable babies as long as they are physically located in the womb. It does not matter if they can survive outside the womb or not. In fact, that law even removes prosecutions for a third party harming a baby in the womb. If a mother is attacked and loses the baby, even if she had every intention of keeping it, the only prosecution the attacker faces is the assault and battery charges against the mother.

While shocking, this course of events is not surprising. This is the logical path of the pro-choice worldview. Once someone believes that it is morally acceptable to redefine people as property based on their developmental stage of life, whatever stages are chosen is arbitrary. The logical arguments fail to form any barrier at any stage. If an embryo is the sole property of the mother, and she should be able to dispose of without consequence from government forces, why not a fetus? Why not an infant, a toddler, a child, a teenager?

Virginia’s governor has made this very case this week, stating that a mother has the right to request an abortion after birth. While he used the examples of deformity and disease, and within the timeframe of before leaving the hospital, it’s clear from the point he was making that he is happy with legalizing infanticide.

It’s unclear what prompted this sudden push into depravity, but what is clear is the fact that prominent Democrats seem determined to race to the deepest depths of immorality. Maybe they were emboldened by the lack of a coordinated denouncing of the Republican Party’s obvious refusal to defund Planned Parenthood when they had the power. Maybe it is just part of the push to stand against every position Donald Trump openly supports. Whatever the reason, it’s likely that a significant number of voters will not agree it’s worth literally murdering viable babies for.

There is a flicker of light in this whole dark, evil scheme they are pushing. It lies in the fact that there is no longer a slippery slope. The pro-choice side has run so far away from the pro-life position, that there is no longer a common ground left between the two. It’s become a choice between pro-life and infanticide, and infanticide is an area that Americans strongly oppose. The last polling data I saw (which I admit was a bit ago) showed that over 80% of Americans oppose late term abortions. That may shift as thoughts are readjusted into the new norms, but I suspect it will still be a sizable majority.

While I hate to see the opportunity to murder the unborn expanded, this new position is not only indefensible in the traditional sense of morality, it has also destroyed many of their own arguments in favor of abortion. Those arguments will not work when used to murder a perfectly viable baby.

In their zeal to expand a mother’s opportunity to murder their children without legal consequence, the pro-choice crowd may have killed their entire movement. At the very least, they have crippled it by sucking the heart out of its core philosophical basis. We will see if it survives this ordeal.

I am praying, hoping, and working hard to see that it won’t.
